GOLFING in

Squamish Valley Golf and Country Club

this championship golf course make for a pleasure filled round.

Established in 1967 and extensively refurbished in 1995, this mature course was also created by friendly locals who saw a need for a golf course of their own. About forty minutes south of Whistler, the course provides a challenge for any skill level. The famous Squamish winds swirl around the fairways as eagles ride the thermals above. The same community spirit that helped build the course ensures that it has remained well manicured.

- Originally designed by Gordon McKay in the mid-1960s,
Squamish Valley Golf and Country Club was redesigned by architect Robert
Muir Greaves in 1992. Those who have played the course have
enthusiastically received the changes and Squamish's affordable golf
course now is a strong rival to the best of the courses scattered along
the Sea-To-Sky corridor.
Cut from a mature timber forest, this 18-hole par 72 championship golf
course is conveniently located half way between Vancouver and Whistler
and is well worth a stop on your travels north or on the way back to the
big city. The front nine features two new lakes, a double green and a full-sized
practice facility. In keeping with the original landscape, massive
stumps from the original growth timber are littered around the course. The views from the course are equally as spectacular as those enjoyed by
its neighbours further north. As well as the spectacular mountain
vistas, the sight of soaring bald eagles, especially in November and
February can also distract golfers. However, this very walkable course has many fine holes to help keep the
attention of its players. Among these, the 4th hole is certainly worth
mentioning. This par four measures 423 yards from the black tee (one of
four sets of tees) and is considered the biggest challenge of the
course. You'll see why when you visit! A fully licensed clubhouse awaits at the 19th hole which also features a
full service pro shop. Other activities at the club include 2 squash
courts and 4 sheets of curling ice.
Furry Creek Golf & Country
Club

that overlooks Howe sound and majestic mountain side.

Located just south of Squamish, Furry Creek offers a truly varied golfing experience. The first 9 holes are an example of mountain golf, then the 10th hole drops 165 feet to just above sea level as you play along the coast of Howe Sound. The last four holes guide you through the trees to the clubhouse as you enjoy woodland golf at its finest.

- Designed by Robert Muir Greaves, this 6,001 yard 18-hole golf course opened as a private facility in the summer of 1993 before opening its doors to the general public in April the following year. The golf course is set in beautiful surroundings and one description calling it "the single most scenic golf setting in BC" isn't too far off the mark. The front nine makes clever use of its
slope-side, hilly location (don't worry carts are included in the green fees!) and demands careful positioning off the tees. The back nine opens with a 165 foot vertical drop from the tee to the fairway and continues through various unique and challenging holes (including the dramatic 14th hole), culminating in the "woodland masterpiece" - the par four 18th with huge spruce, fir and cedar trees lining the fairway. The clubhouse at Furry Creek is a massive 33,000 square feet and features expansive locker rooms complete with saunas, a full-service golf shop, fully equipped kitchen and the all important dining and lounge facilities where you can regale all with your heroic deeds on the previous 18th holes. Furry Creek is a delightful golfing experience regardless of whether you are a low-handicapper or the occasional belter. Whatever the case, the surrounding beauty will play with your senses and add to the challenge of what is already a thought-provoking and exciting course.
